Summer Sun, Swimmers Series #4
36x24”, oil
This painting is the first in my swimmers series that has the figure completely out of the water. The sun takes center stage in this one, and the wonderful act of soaking up its warmth after a long New England winter is a ritual that makes me feel so alive. This painting differs from the others that instead of the water's surface being broken by movement, it calmly reflects the light. Shape is the strongest element in this composition, which lends a feeling of playfulness. The subtle diagonals created by the hat, ribbon and the negative space between the two floats balances the horizontals created by the arms, rectangle float and swimsuit. Once again, this is one of my beautiful three sisters as a model.
