Dogs on the Beach #8
8x10" acrylic, Private Collection
It's been a few years since I left off on my Dogs on the Beach series, which is just as much about the dogs' owners as the dogs themselves. After working predominately in oil for years, it was a challenge to work in acrylic again. Although I don't like working with its quick drying quality, I do like the way it forces me to leave brush strokes behind in a more painterly manner.
This scene is of my daughter and her dog, so it was especially fun to create. The only challenge was to choose one out of the dozens of photos I've taken of them over the years. I chose this one partly for the lack of horizon and the deep blue of the sea as it rolls in.
